Cooling by misting

High pressure misting by DID Clim lets you efficiently cool down the relative air temperature. The evaporation of micro-droplets of water dispersed by the misting system absorbs a part of the heat contained in the air.

This phenomenon is called “cooling by adiabatic humidification”.

This process is called “adiabatic” as long as there no heat input or withdrawal from the air. This phenomenon is also known under the name of “cooling by evaporation”. When non-saturated air comes into contact with micro-droplets of water, the water evaporates and the liquid changes into gas. If there is no input of heat along this stage, the heat needed to evaporate the water can only be provided by the air. This then results in a decrease of the air temperature and an increase of the hygrometry degree. The total enthalpy of the humid air stays the same.

In the above diagram, we can see that at a constant enthalpy rate, when the humid air passes from 30% to 80% of hygrometry, the temperature decreases from 20 °C to 12°C.

This diagram is called “Mollier Diagram”, named after its inventor. It is still relevant today and is commonly used by thermal engineers to calculate cooling systems. Our design department uses a computerized version that lets us determine precisely the theoretical parameters that define a thermodynamic system.

In adiabatic cooling, it is imperative to master and to know the input of the outside air, the calorific input by conduction, convection and/or radiation, as well as the particular configuration of the area that is to be treated (dominant wind, relative temperature,...).

Our team regularly accomplishes this kind of calculations and our references in this field are numerous.
